Big First Period For Stars In Second Straight Win Over Miners

Cochenour Arena was the setting  for the second game of a 2 game series between the Thunder Bay North Stars and the Red Lake Miners.  Connor Lemieux fresh off a 42 save performance would get his second straight start while Dylan Barton got his first start of the season for the Miners.

William Demkiw got the visitors on the board 4:27 into the first period with his second of the season.  Hunter Foreshew made it 2-0 at 10:59 on the power play with Ryan Howe serving an unsportsmanlike conduct penalty.  things went from bad to worse shortly after that for the Miners.  Nolan Desjardins beat Barton to make it 3-0 at 14:06  then 51 seconds later Nicholas Dittrich ended Barton’s night making it 4-0 for the North Stars.   After 20 minutes of play the North Stars led 4-0.

Brady Harroun got the home team on the board at 3:47 with a power play tally.  Dawson Lampi picked up a soft cross ice pass and had a couple steps on the Miners defence and beat Wheaton to make it 5-1 Stars.  Ryan Howe’s great solo effort short handed resulted in his first goal of the season at 18:53 giving the Miners some hope heading into the third period.  40 minutes of play went by and the Stars led the Miners 5-2.

Nic Bolin took advantage of a defensive zone mix up but the North Stars and scored a wide open short handed goal at 3:52. Brady Harroun would get his second power play goal of the night at 14:43 to make it a one goal game.  All momentum the Miners had after the 4th goal was taken away by Nolan Desjardins scoring his 5th goal in 2 games, another power play marker at 16:38.  Too little too late story line would close out the game for the Miners.

Final score is Thunder Bay North Stars  6  Red Lake Miners 4.
