Auger augments Miners’ win over Iron Rangers

HOYT LAKES, Minn. – Dwayne Auger scored three times to register his first Superior International Junior Hockey League hat trick and also assisted on two other goals to help power the English River Miners past the Minnesota Iron Rangers 6-2 Saturday night at Hoyt Lakes Arena.

After a scoreless first period, Jamie Driedger connected on the power play for English River 87 seconds into the middle session.

Minnesota regrouped to tie it at 4:14 on a shorthanded effort from Jonathan Yanovsky then go in front at 12:06 thanks to Jack Stensgard at even strength, who notched his 15th of the season.

Auger then picked up his initial tally of the evening later in the frame to knot the affair at 2-2.

The final session belonged to the Miners as they struck for four unanswered markers to pull away for the victory.

Dante Raposo supplied the game-winner six minutes into the session before Auger and Driedger added later efforts to extend the visitors cushion.

Auger then iced it with an empty netter in the final seconds to round out the scoring.

Colton Johnson chipped in with a couple of assists for English River.

The Miners outshot the Iron Rangers 49-21 with Michael Lenko picking up the win and Sean Angle the loss.

The same two teams will meet again Sunday afternoon at 1:30 p.m. back in Hoyt Lakes.
