Albers OT hero as Miners edge Iron Rangers 3-2

HOYT LAKES, Minn. – A Zak Albers power play goal 1:21 into overtime was the difference as the English River Miners edged the Minnesota Iron Rangers 3-2 Sunday in Superior International Junior Hockey League play at Hoyt Lakes Arena.

Minnesota opened the scoring 7:15 into the contest on Eli Kinsman’s sixth tally of the season.

English River countered however with the equalizer a couple of shifts later thanks to a Michael Di Lullo effort.

The Miners then went in front in the latter stages of the frame as Brody Jennings connected on the power play at 17:56.

Action in the second stanza saw the Iron Rangers draw level when Zac Horn buried his sixth of the campaign.

It remained tied through the remainder of regulation and into extra time when Albers converted on a man advantage opportunity that carried over into OT to give the visitors the second point in the match-up.

Clayton Brown had a couple of assists for Minnesota on the night.

English River outshot the Iron Rangers 44-23 overall with Westin Cardwell picking up the win while Tyler Thompson’s strong outing in net for the home side helped his team earn a point.
